Four decades have passed since my late husband and I began our journey with the Old English Mastiff. Looking back, I could have never imagined where the breed would take us! Many have attempted to emulate Tamarack without success. Some have attempted to claim fame by using the name "Tamarack" successfully - for a short time - until the public discovered they were being duped. Tamarack has never been, nor is now, partners with or working in conjunction with any individual or kennel. The name "Tamarack" was derived during the years with our Irish Wolfhounds. The name was so well known, we decided to keep the same name for our Mastiffs. There is much confusion as to exactly what a "Tamarack" dog is - bloodline wise. Individuals are selling puppies with the guise that they are "Tamarack" puppies - which in fact, they are not. There are also individuals registering their puppies with "Tamarack" on the puppies' registration applications - again duping the public. One good suggestion is to obtain a copy of the pedigree of the puppy one is planning to purchase Other than obtaining a puppy directly from Tamarack Mastiffs, if both the sire and the dam are "Tamarack" - and then you see more "Tamarack" dogs listed as Grandparents, etc., you probably have a "Tamarack" dog. If, on the other hand, only one parent is listed as "Tamarack", with more "Tamarack" dogs behind that dog, BUT the other parent is NOT titled as a "Tamarack", then that is NOT a "Tamarack" dog. Also, if someone has unethically used the kennel name of "Tamarack" on one of their dogs, there will NO "Tamarack" behind that dog. Do your homework - check with the source - obtain a pedigree of the proposed puppy or dog you are contemplating purchasing - and beware of the "wannabes". When the time comes to retire from being "active" in the breed, I hope to become acquainted with a responsible individual to carry on the "Tamarack" line. I will actively work with this person as to genetics, bloodlines, breeding, etc. to hopefully preserver this remarkable breed. In closing, I wish to thank all the wonderful people I have met over the past 40 years who have enjoyed and loved this incredible breed as much as I have. And, I hope my forthcoming book will benefit all who study the contents, which if applied, will thereby benefit the breed.
